About Us

PT Strategic Development for Managers (PT SDM Indonesia) was founded in 1997 by two ex-patriate consultants in Indonesia:  Mr. Dean Boulding of Canada and Mr. Malcolm Bennison of the UK.  The firm is a management consultancy specializing in HR Management.  The partners have developed, and continue to work with, a pool of experienced, qualified Indonesian consultants to better address client needs.

Our work is approximately equally divided between strategic HR management, matters core to the business, and HR management processes, the activities such as performance management and succession planning which occupy the time of HR practitioners.  We are not recruiters, and we do not sell software or other services.

Our fundamental philosophy is adding value to clients through improving the effectiveness of their Human Resources management.  Too many firms in Indonesia have neglected this aspect of their business, and performance is suffering accordingly.  We firmly believe that HR must add value to the business through improving performance, not merely push paper or keep employees morale high.

On a personal note, our partners and consultants find the entire field of HR management fascinating.  Arriving here from a variety of backgrounds, the challenges of people management fascinate us, and the potential for improving business results through improved HR management impress us greatly.

Our clients have ranged from small legal offices to huge oil firms, and include NGOs and government offices.  Some of our past clients include:
